We have very very good news! In return for all the love you’ve shown him over the last year or so, Benji Boko has released an epic remix album, encompassing re-works of some of the biggest tunes of recent times . . . . . oh, and did I mention, IT IS FREE TO DOWNLOAD! :D

His debut album, ‘Beats, Treats & All Things Unique’ has been regularly spinning round on my playlist (Glider and The Eagle are personal favourites if you can get hold of a copy!) so you can imagine the excitement here at Funk and Filth when news of this new remix album finally hit us!

In addition to the first album, we’ve been wowed by Benji at Glasto, Bestival and numerous other festivals, and seriously looking forward to bumping into the afro-haired, musical firecracker of a man again this summer! So if you can, make sure you catch him and his uniquely funky, pioneering musical stylings when you get the chance – his array of gadgets alone is a sight to behold!

Funk and Filth File o' Facts : Tony Anthem & Axl Ender

Any regular visitors to Funk and Filth, or basically anyone who knows anything about lovely dirty music, will know that Tony Anthem and Axl Ender are at the top of the game when it comes to filth! So you can imagine our excitement when they released two new tunes last month, and ‘Hurt’ and ‘Smash It' do not disappoint – they basically do exactly what it says on the tin!

We caught up with Messrs Anthem and Ender to take a deep dark journey into the minds behind the monsters – see what the pair have to say here, and check out a load of their releases and free downloads at the bottom of this post. (The ‘Dub Monkey Vol 2’ mix is a must have! Download it for free and lock away your pets before playing!)

You guys generate some serious filth, taking the No.2 spot on the filthy side of our Hall of Fame last year, what do you use as inspiration for your music? Or is it safer not to ask?!

A lot of our inspiration comes from 50s science fiction-movies, not to mention Tony's massive collection of records. It's huge. In fact, our studio walls are constructed entirely from stacks of vinyl and sleeves. Not exactly soundproofed, but then again that's the whole point. Our neighbourhood loves us! And last but not least - our weekly fishing-trips out in the Norwegian wilderness is a huge source of inspiration. I guess it's a viking-thing.

You get to DJ all over the place, to crowds of all sizes. What’s your favourite venue or event to play, and what makes it so special?

Piratestation all over Russia! The raves over there are batshit crazy, just the way we like 'em. Russia has become a second home to us over the years and the crowds are fantastic.
Мы любим всех вас удивительный русский ублюдки!! (We love all of you a wonderful Russian bastards!)

Who is your favourite Producer right now? Do you have one tune that you always have in your back pocket, ready to drop into a set to lift the roof?

Our two favourite producers right now are up-and-comers Alex Odden and Miu. They're both so talented that we immediately had to sign them to our label before anyone else did. They are guaranteed to tear shit UP, so remember to duck and cover when these boys come knocking. Dub Monkey Records will be releasing an album later this year featuring collabs from both of them so watch this space. Prepare for your impending DOOOOM!

Our superweapon tune must be Future Prophecies - Dreadlock, we did a super duper uber VIP dubstep mix of it that destroys all clubs!

You can do a back-to-back set with any DJ in the world. Anyone. Who would you pick?

Excision is on top of our list and has been there for a long, long time. He is no doubt the hardest working man in bass music and never fails to deliver the goods
on his label Rottun Recordings. Other than him it's always impossible to pick just one, you bastard.

Download the epic Excision set from Shambhala 2010 right here, which includes the Dubstep mix of Dreadlock by Future Prophecies!

You two guys work together most of the time, as Tony Anthem and Axl Ender. What do you think you both bring to the table which makes such a winning combination? And is there anything that really annoys you about your partner in crime? ;)

Axl: It annoys me that Tony always thinks the same things as me. Makes me want to smack him sometimes.
Tony: It annoys me that Axl always thinks the same things as me. Makes me want to smack him sometimes.

The exact magic formula for our filth is a well kept industry secret, but I'm allowed to tell you that the main ingredients are equal parts of blood, sweat and awesome.
We've been working together for so long that the way we flow has become second nature, and the things we initially brought to the table are now mixed together and belong to both of us. Also, the fact that both of us are Dub Monkey supervillains sharing a single megabrain really helps with the winning. It also makes planning for world domination a breeze. Prepare for subsonic mind-control, puny humans! Have you seen the movie Mars Attacks? It's exactly like that.
Except with monkeys.

This is a big question now . . . not musically related but very very important to us! Footwear. What’s the coolest pair in your footlocker at the moment?

Tony: always sporting box fresh white Adidas shoes!
Axl: Any skate-shoes even though i suck with a skateboard

And finally, the question that everyone needs to know, and what we ask everyone. . . Funk or Filth . . . . musically which way are you feeling right now? (probably an obvious answer for you guys!)

We're going to have to go with "flunk"!

Hurt’ and ‘Smash It' are available now on Beatport, along with their brand new release 'Nightfall'. Get them now, or you can have a listen below and grab a couple of free downloads while your at it!

Scratch Perverts funk up The Westbury

A Friday night at The Westbury is pretty much guaranteed to be a big one, and after a full house for Krafty Kuts on my last visit there, I was expecting a good ‘un as the Scratch Perverts came to visit!

Not sure who the DJ was who was on before them, but he did a bloody good job luring people onto the dance floor with some classic old school garage, before slipping in a cheeky Sub Focus - ‘Could It Be Real’ remix and a bit of ‘Krafty Symphony’, to really get things heated up for the Perverts!

And when they came on, shortly after 1am, they seriously funked out! There wasn’t an inch to swing an elbow on the dance floor (I have the bruises to prove it!) and there were some serious shapes being thrown! All in all, a proper tasty set from the boys, demonstrating why DJ Primecuts, Tony Vegas and Plus One are still at the top of their game, after years of award-winning performances! Seriously looking forward to seeing them at Bestival in September!

See below for the famous ‘Cockney Thug’, as remixed by the Scratch Perverts, plus some other tunes from another banging night at The Westbury!

Funk and Filth File o' Facts : JFB

JFB is another Brighton-based musical mastermind, and turntablism is his speciality. This guy is seriously impressive.

Known as Jean-Marc Preisler behind closed doors, to us mere humans his JFB alter-ego has twice won the UK DMC Championship, in 2007 and 2011, and his legendary BattleJam sessions with the beardy man known as Beardyman have helped to cement his reputation as the king of the turntables.

His sets include all the things we love here at Funk and Filth: Breaks, Dubstep, Drum and Bass, Hip Hop, plus anything else with a big bad bassline. Check out his two MegaMixes below, which prove that he can do pretty much anything with a couple of decks and a mixer. This is special stuff.

And if you want to be really impressed, watch the video below of the man with the super-fast crossfader finger in action!
